Shir-ly
Free method

Learn Hebrew with Israeli songs

Shir-ly is a free, song-based way to learn Hebrew — made for Jewish communities in the diaspora and for anyone who loves Israeli music. Every song runs karaoke-style: the Hebrew line lights up word by word while you see nikud, Latin transliteration and an English translation. Instructions and games are in English (Russian is available too).

How the method works

  1. 1. Listen and read together. Music slows Hebrew down for your ear: the melody marks where each word starts and ends, so you stop hearing one long stream of sound.
  2. 2. See the vowels. Nikud can be switched on, so you learn how a word is actually pronounced instead of guessing; transliteration is there when the letters are still new.
  3. 3. Understand the line. Each line has a full translation, and single words have their own meaning, so nothing stays a mystery.
  4. 4. Use the words. Song vocabulary comes back in everyday sentences and in games, which is what turns recognition into memory.

Games built from each song

  • Fill the blanks — a word is removed from a line and you pick it from four options, with a hint and audio replay.
  • Listen & choose — the song keeps playing and you choose the word you just heard.
  • Word match — connect Hebrew words to their meaning.
  • Scrambled line — rebuild a lyric from shuffled words, using the English sentence as your guide.
  • Verb conjugation — past, present and future with natural time cues (yesterday / today / tomorrow).
  • Type it & write it — type the word you hear, or write the Hebrew letters by hand on the screen.
