The story behind the song

'Yesh Ei Sham' ('Somewhere Out There') is one of the most tender love songs in Israeli music. Anat Gov — playwright and Gidi Gov's wife — wrote the words with Yoni Rechter, who composed the melody, and Gidi Gov recorded it for his landmark 1983 album '40:06'. Somewhere out there, someone is thinking of you — and the singer reveals: it's been him all along. Core vocabulary: מישהו (someone), אי שם (somewhere), כוכב נופל (falling star), קרן אור (ray of light).

About Gidi Gov

Gidi Gov, born in Rehovot in 1950, first became famous in the 1970s as the lead singer of the legendary rock band Kaveret — Israel's own 'Beatles moment' — and as a star of the iconic comedy group and TV shows that shaped Israeli humor.

After Kaveret disbanded, Gov built one of the most successful solo careers in Israeli pop. His 1983 album '40:06', produced by Yoni Rechter, is considered a masterpiece of Israeli pop-jazz — and 'Yesh Ei Sham' is its most loved ballad.
